However, the rapid rise of freelance translators and online translation providers has also created concerns regarding professional standards, document accuracy, and fraudulent claims of certification. This academic article examines the importance of utilizing the services of certified translators, translation certification providers, and certified interpreters accredited by the Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI). The study analyzes the risks associated with unqualified translation providers and explores the role of professional certification in ensuring document credibility and international acceptance. The findings indicate that employing certified professionals reduces the risks of mistranslation, document rejection, and fraudulent activities while enhancing trust and reliability in official, legal, and international documentation.

In the era of globalization, cross-cultural and multilingual communication has become increasingly important in legal, educational, economic, and international relations contexts. Translation services have therefore emerged as a critical component of international interaction and document exchange. The advancement of digital technologies and online platforms has enabled a growing number of individuals to enter the translation profession with relative ease. Although this expansion has created broader access to language services, it has simultaneously raised concerns regarding professional standards, translator credibility, and the quality of translated documents.

At present, many individuals and agencies claim to provide “certified translation” services without possessing legitimate professional qualifications or accreditation. Consequently, many translated documents are rejected by embassies, governmental institutions, courts, and international organizations due to noncompliance with required standards. This issue highlights the necessity of professional certification systems capable of ensuring quality assurance and public trust.

The Southeast Asian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (SEAProTI) plays a significant role in establishing professional standards for translators and interpreters within Southeast Asia. Through structured certification systems, professional training, ethical regulations, and competency assessments, SEAProTI seeks to ensure that translation and interpreting services meet internationally recognized standards. This article examines the importance of using certified professionals accredited by SEAProTI and discusses why the public should prioritize certified translation and interpreting services.

The Importance of Translator and Interpreter Certification Systems

บทนำ
ในยุคโลกาภิวัตน์ที่การสื่อสารข้ามภาษาและวัฒนธรรมมีความสำคัญเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่อง การแปลเอกสารกลายเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญของกิจกรรมทางเศรษฐกิจ กฎหมาย การศึกษา และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ การพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีดิจิทัลและแพลตฟอร์มออนไลน์ได้เปิดโอกาสให้บุคคลทั่วไปสามารถเข้าสู่อาชีพนักแปลได้ง่ายขึ้น ส่งผลให้จำนวนผู้ให้บริการแปลเอกสารเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วในช่วงหลายปีที่ผ่านมา แม้ว่าปรากฏการณ์ดังกล่าวจะช่วยเพิ่มทางเลือกให้แก่ผู้บริโภค แต่ในอีกด้านหนึ่งก็สร้างปัญหาเกี่ยวกับมาตรฐานวิชาชีพ ความน่าเชื่อถือของผู้ให้บริการ และคุณภาพของงานแปล

ปัจจุบันพบว่ามีบุคคลจำนวนไม่น้อยที่แอบอ้างตนว่าเป็น “นักแปลรับรอง” หรือให้บริการ “Certified Translation” โดยไม่มีการรับรองจากองค์กรวิชาชีพที่ถูกต้องตามมาตรฐาน ส่งผลให้ผู้ใช้บริการจำนวนมากประสบปัญหาเอกสารถูกปฏิเสธจากสถานทูต หน่วยงานราชการ หรือองค์กรต่างประเทศ เนื่องจากเอกสารแปลไม่มีคุณสมบัติตามที่กำหนด ปัญหาดังกล่าวสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความจำเป็นของระบบรับรองวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามที่สามารถสร้างความเชื่อมั่นให้แก่สังคมได้

สมาคมวิชาชีพนักแปลและล่ามแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ หรือ SEAProTI เป็นองค์กรวิชาชีพที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในการกำหนดมาตรฐานด้านการแปลและการล่ามในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ โดยมีการกำหนดระบบการรับรองนักแปลและล่ามอย่างเป็นระบบ ทั้งในด้านความรู้ ความสามารถ จริยธรรม และมาตรฐานการปฏิบัติงาน บทความนี้จึงมุ่งศึกษาความสำคัญของการใช้บริการจากผู้ได้รับการรับรองของ SEAProTI และวิเคราะห์เหตุผลที่ประชาชนควรเลือกใช้บริการจากนักแปลและล่ามที่ผ่านการรับรองอย่างเป็นทางการ

ปัญหาดังกล่าวสะท้อนให้เห็นว่า การเลือกใช้บริการจากผู้ให้บริการที่ไม่มีระบบรับรองหรือไม่มีตัวตนที่สามารถตรวจสอบได้ อาจนำไปสู่ความเสียหายทั้งด้านเวลา ค่าใช้จ่าย และความน่าเชื่อถือของเอกสาร โดยเฉพาะในกรณีของเอกสารสำคัญ เช่น เอกสารการศึกษาต่อ เอกสารยื่นวีซ่า เอกสารศาล และเอกสารธุรกิจระหว่างประเทศ
