Our Practitioners
Recognised Practicing Credential:
A Recognised Practising credential is granted in languages in which SEAProTI is unable to deliver testing on a regular basis. A practitioner who holds a Recognised Practising credential has satisfied the minimum training requirements stipulated by SEAProTI and has recent and regular experience as a translator and/or interpreter.
Recognised Practising credentials do not have equal status with certification, nor do they stipulate a specific level of transfer competency.
How to get a recognised practising credential
Potential translators or interpreters need to prove they have obtained the basic experience and ability that a Recognised Practising credential demonstrates.
This is done by providing specific proof of:
- Language Proficiency in the language pair that the applicant would like to acquire the credential
- Work experience as a translator or interpreter
- Completion of a minimum level of training as a translator/interpreter from recognised organisations
If applying for Recognised Practising Deaf Interpreter (RPDI) you will need to provide evidence of:
- Completing appropriate Deaf Interpreter training by recognised organisations
Certified Translators
A translator transfers a written message from one language into a written message in another language, for the purpose of communication between a writer and reader who do not share the same language.
Translators work with documents from certain typical domains and types, depending on the certification they hold.
SEAProTI’s Certified Translator test is an objective assessment of the skills and competencies needed to practice as a translator in Southeast Asia.
How to obtain a Certified Translator credential
- Applicants shall complete a 30-hour professional translation course provided by SEAProTI. The course is particularly designed for certified translators.
- The applicants shall pass an exam at satisfying levels to claim level-2 and level-3 certification and credentials to work on behalf of SEAProTI to practice on behalf of SEAProTI.
- Only C-3 translators can provide a translation certification with a seal.
Certified Interpreters
A Certified Interpreter renders complex, non-specialised messages from a source language into a target language that accurately reflects the meaning.
SEAProTI’s Certified Interpreter Test is an objective assessment of the skills and competencies needed to practice as an interpreter in Southeast Asia.
How to obtain a Certified Interpreter credential
- Applicants shall complete a 40-hour professional interpreting course provided by SEAProTI. The course is particularly designed for certified interpreters.
- The applicants shall pass an exam that is particularly prepared by SEAProTI to be eligible for certified interpreters with either level-2 or level-3 certification to practice on behalf of SEAProTI.
Certified Conference Interpreter
Conference interpreters transfer highly complex, specialised messages from a source language into a target language. They interpret situations such as speeches and presentations at high-level international exchanges, like international conferences, summits, meetings and negotiations (e.g. UN summits, bilateral treaty negotiations), across a broad range of domains.
SEAProTI’s Certified Conference Interpreter Test is an objective assessment of the skills and competencies needed to practice as a conference interpreter, handling complex interpreting in international settings.
How to obtain a recognised practising credential
- Applicants shall complete a 40-hour conference interpreting course provided by SEAProTI. The course is particularly designed for certified conference interpreters.
- The applicants shall pass an exam that is particularly prepared by SEAProTI to be eligible for certified conference interpreters with either level-2 or level-3 certification to practice on behalf of SEAProTI.
